Description

Premier Translucent Wood Toner Deck & Siding Stain is specially formulated with Tung Oil resins and the finest sun-blocking pigments available. Premier Deck & Siding Stain is specially formulated to add maximum protection to decks, siding, railings and trim without masking the natural beauty of the wood grain. Premier Deck & Siding Stain is resistant to mildew growth and blocks harmful UV rays that cause sun damage. Use Premier Deck & Siding Stain when a rich penetrating stain look is desired.

Recommended for exterior use on: Decks, Siding, Fences and Railings

How much do I need? Total the number of square feet you intend to stain. Divide that number by 300 for smooth wood surfaces or 225 for rougher substrates. The resulting amount will estimate the number of gallons required for your job.

Premier Deck & Siding Stain is not intended for use over previously sealed surfaces. Any surface that has been previously stained or sealed must be thoroughly cleaned with the cleaner or remover recommended by Premier Paint.

NEW WOOD Should be coated as soon as after installation to obtain maximum longevity. The wood must be dry before coating. It is important to check for the presence of mill glaze on any new wood surface. Mill glaze is a clear hard coating left on wood surfaces resulting from its final processing. To ensure that coatings adhere to such woods, mill glaze must be removed either by sanding or chemical removal. Please consult Premier Paint for mill glaze removal advice. Be sure to remove dirt and debris from all surfaces that are to be stained and do not apply Premier Deck & Siding Stain to wet or damp surfaces. For best protection against mildew, all new wood surfaces should be washed with an EPA registered mildew cleaning solution, rinsed thoroughly, and allowed to dry before staining.

PRESSURE TREATED LUMBER: New pressure treated lumber should be scrubbed with a stiff bristle brush with a TSP solution. To remove mildew, use an EPA registered mildew cleaning solution. Most C.C.A. pressure treated lumber is still "Green" or unseasoned at the time of installation and is subject to shrinkage. Only pressure treated lumber with a mill stamp (K DAT) "Kiln Dried" after treatment will have little or no shrinkage. For this reason, we recommend that the wood moisture content be 18% or less for all pressure treated lumber not bearing the K DAT stamp prior to application.

Before You Start Your Job: Thoroughly stir your stain to bring up settled pigment from the bottom of the can. This will ensure color uniformity. Check for different batch numbers (see the numbers on the lid of the can) if the numbers are not the same it is recommended that different batches intended for use on the same surfaces be “boxed” into a common container. Doing so will ensure color uniformity.

Testing: Before starting the entire job, be sure to apply a test application of the stain to an inconspicuous area of the job. Because all woods accept stains differently, the color of the stain when applied can differ slightly from the merchandising samples. Allow your test panel to dry before determining what the final stain color will look like.

Applying Premier Deck & Siding Stain: Brushing with a natural bristle brush is the best way to uniformly apply the stain. Previously stained or weathered bare wood surfaces must be thoroughly sanded to remove deteriorated wood or old stain before application of Premier Deck & Siding Stain.

The Elements: Do not apply Premier Deck & Siding Stain at temperature below 40ºF. Avoid staining in direct sunlight to inhibit premature drying and lapping of the stain.

How Many Coats? In most circumstances one coat will be sufficient. If the wood being stained is unusually rough or porous two applications may be required to achieve the desired protection and look.

Can I thin Premier Deck & Siding Stain? No, the product is formulated to be used directly from the can.

Clean up: Clean tools with mineral spirits or turpentine.

Returning your newly stained surface to service: Premier Deck & Siding Stain requires 8 hours to dry to the touch and 24 hours to return a deck to service. These times can vary depending upon temperature and humidity. Cooler temperatures and high humidity will lengthen these times. To ensure that the stain has properly dried it is best to check by touching the film to test for a complete loss of any tack or stickiness. If after the recommended 24 hour drying time has elapsed and no stickiness can be detected your stained surface can be returned to service. ‡ Contains an additive designed to inhibit growth of mold and mildew on the dried paint film only.
